UKPSC AE Recruitment 2026: Official Overview
The Uttarakhand Public Service Commission (UKPSC) conducts this prestigious exam to recruit Assistant Engineers (Group ‘B’) for various state departments like PWD, Irrigation, MI, and Rural Works.
1. Eligibility Criteria
- Educational Qualification: A B.E. / B.Tech degree in the relevant engineering branch (Civil, Electrical, Mechanical, or Agriculture) from a recognized university.
- Age Limit: Minimum 21 years and maximum 42 years. (Age relaxation applies for SC/ST/OBC/PWD candidates as per state norms).
- Domicile/Registration: Candidates should ideally be registered in any Employment Office of Uttarakhand State or fulfill specific domicile criteria mentioned in the official notification.
2. Examination Pattern
The selection is a two-stage process: Written Objective Test followed by an Interview.

4. Salary and Probation
- Pay Scale: Level-10 (₹56,100 – ₹1,77,500 in the Pay Matrix).
- Probation Period: 2 Years. During this time, candidates undergo departmental training and must pass the departmental exams to be confirmed.
Part 1: Compulsory General Papers (Common for All)
These three papers are the “rank boosters” and require consistent practice.
1. General Hindi (100 Marks)
The level is typically equivalent to the High School (Class 10th) Uttarakhand Board.
- Vyakaran: Varnvichar, Shabad Roop (Tatsam, Tadbhav, Deshaj, Videshaj), Sandhi, Samas.
- Vocabulary: Synonyms (Paryayvachi), Antonyms (Vilom), One-word substitution.
- Usage: Idioms and Phrases (Muhavare), Punctuation, Sentence correction.
- Comprehension: Unseen passage and precise writing.
2. General English (100 Marks)
- Comprehension: Understanding of passages and theme detection.
